Top tips and must-knows
So you’ve just landed in the great city of London? There is a huge variety of things to see and do in this wonderfully alive city; and while some of you are eager to start on the cornucopia of restaurants and bistros in the city, there are some who are keen to go pub hopping across all the famous pubs in London. It is no secret that pubs in London are a dime a dozen, and these old time taverns generally serve up a mean ale and delicious pub grub for the discerning traveler.
Here are some tips when visiting the many popular pubs in London with your mates:
1. Do note the opening hours
Different Pubs in London generally have different opening hours. Some are shut during lunch time and are open again at the sunset when the general pub crowd comes a-knockin’ on their doors. There are gastropubs that now take reservations but it would be wise to still come as early as you can anyway to book a good spot at the bar.
2. Pubs in London are open only to patrons who are 18 and above
It does not matter if you look younger than your age shows. Just carry your ID and assure them that you are indeed 18 and over. As for other minors, you may want to be accompanied with an adult if you need to enter the premises of most pubs in London in order to have a meal. Most pubs do not mind minors and some generally limit them to the beer garden to have their lunches or dinners.
3. Tipping is not necessary
Owners for pubs in London dictate that it is unnecessary for patrons to tip when they buy drinks. While this is true for most pubs in London, you may tip when food is served to your table.
4. Smoking is a no-no
Don’t even think about lighting up while you indoors in one of the pubs in London. Smoking has been banned since July 2007 and the law is applicable to most of the UK including Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
